Marketing Cloud Engagement, today

Marketing Cloud Engagement — MCE, and still called SFMC by most of the market — is Salesforce’s platform for high-volume, cross-channel customer engagement. Email, SMS, push, in-app and web, orchestrated through Journey Builder and fed by data extensions.

It is genuinely powerful, and it is also the platform where more organizations get quietly stuck than any other in the Salesforce estate. The usual pattern: it was implemented by someone who left, half the automations are undocumented, the data extensions have grown into a swamp, and nobody wants to touch the journey that is somehow still working.

What we do in Marketing Cloud

  • Implementation — new MCE builds done properly, with a data model and naming conventions that survive contact with reality
  • Rescue and audit — inheriting somebody else’s instance, documenting it, and stabilizing what is fragile
  • Journey Builder — lifecycle journeys, onboarding, re-engagement, abandonment, and the exit criteria most builds forget
  • Automation Studio, SQL and AMPscript — the machinery underneath, built to be readable by the next person
  • Deliverability — authentication, reputation, list hygiene and suppression strategy
  • Data extensions and integration — sane structure, Sales/Service Cloud connection, and API-driven sends
  • Preference centres and consent — handled once, properly, rather than per campaign
  • Reporting — numbers leadership can act on rather than open rates in isolation

And the path to Marketing Cloud Next

Here is the part most consultancies are still avoiding. Marketing Cloud Next is not a version bump on MCE. It is a rebuilt, Data Cloud-native generation of the platform, and if your organization has years of MCE investment sitting on the books, it deserves a straight answer about what happens to it.

The honest recommendation for most organizations is not “migrate everything now.” It is a sequence: build the Data Cloud foundation, keep MCE doing the jobs it does well, and move workloads deliberately as they justify it. Where that sequence starts for you is exactly what the readiness assessment answers.

Account Engagement (Pardot) for B2B

Not every business needs Marketing Cloud Engagement. If your model is B2B, sales-led, with long cycles and a handful of decision makers per account, Marketing Cloud Account Engagement — formerly Pardot — is usually the better tool and the cheaper one. We implement it, and we will tell you when it is the right answer even though MCE is the bigger engagement.

How we run a Marketing Cloud engagement

From audit to running journeys

1
AuditWhat exists, what runs, what breaks, and what nobody documented. Written down and handed to you regardless of what happens next.
2
DataData extension structure, integration and consent handling, because everything downstream depends on it.
3
BuildJourneys, automations and templates, with naming conventions and documentation as you go.
4
DeliverabilityAuthentication, warm-up where needed, hygiene and suppression strategy.
5
MeasureReporting that connects sends to revenue rather than to open rates.
6
EnableTraining your team so routine changes never need a consultant.

Marketing Cloud questions we get asked

Is Marketing Cloud Engagement the same as SFMC?

Yes. Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) was renamed Marketing Cloud Engagement, or MCE. Same platform, and the two names are still used interchangeably in most job posts and RFPs.

What is the difference between Marketing Cloud and Account Engagement?

Marketing Cloud Engagement is built for high-volume, multi-channel consumer engagement. Account Engagement, formerly Pardot, is built for B2B nurture and lead scoring tied closely to Sales Cloud. Plenty of organizations genuinely need only one of them, and we will say so.

Can you take over a Marketing Cloud instance somebody else built?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. We audit what exists, document what nobody wrote down, stabilize what is breaking, and give you an honest read on what is worth keeping versus rebuilding.

Do we need Data Cloud to use Marketing Cloud Engagement?

Not for MCE as it exists today - it has its own data model. But if you are planning for Marketing Cloud Next, Data Cloud stops being optional, because MC Next is built on it.

How do you handle deliverability problems?

We start with the boring, high-impact things: authentication records, sending domain and IP reputation, list hygiene, engagement-based suppression, and whether your send patterns look human. Most deliverability crises are the accumulation of small neglect, not one dramatic event.
